His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal (CON), Abisogun II, is the 15th Oniru of Iruland and a highly accomplished public administrator with over 25 years of experience in public service, urban governance, and socio-economic development in Lagos State.
He began his career in the Federal Civil Service and the Nigerian Police Force, rising to the rank of Superintendent of Police and serving as Aide-De-Camp to then Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. He subsequently served in several senior roles within the Lagos State Government, including three tenures as Honourable Commissioner.
As Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Cooperatives and later Agriculture and Food Systems, Oba Lawal led major food security and agribusiness reforms, including the Agric-YES programme, Eko Rice Mill (Imota), and agricultural value-chain empowerment initiatives, contributing to large-scale job creationand improved food systems in Lagos State. As Honourable Commissioner for Housing, he also championed affordable housing and urban development programmes such as Rent-to-Own, Lagos Affordable Public Housing (LAPH), and Transit-Oriented Development.
Academically, Oba Lawal holds advanced degrees from the London School of Economics and SOAS, University of London, and is an alumnus of Harvard Kennedy School, the World Bank Institute, and the Wharton School. Since his coronation in 2020, he has advanced the #LEGIT development agenda for Iruland, focusing on security, infrastructure, youth and women empowerment, healthcare, and environmental sustainability through strategic partnerships and the HRM Abisogun II Foundation.
